OUR STORY

Running a
successful business
since 1973

Harrisburg Printing, Inc. has been providing its customers with high quality printing and personalized service.

In 1973 my father started Harrisburg Printing, Inc. along with my mother in a 10 X 20 rented building with 1 single color printing press. There were many struggles during this time and the only form of advertisement throughout Harrisburg was by word of mouth. As word began to spread about the HPI, the orders began to come in! In the summer of 1974, my Father built a cement block building in their backyard that would be the home for Harrisburg Printing, Inc. The business became a family affair, where I spent most summers working in the shop helping my father with small projects and learning to operate a press that printed envelopes.

The business began to grow more and once again we found ourselves searching for yet a larger building to expand the company. In 1979, we found the perfect spot on Highway 49 that was zoned commercial to move the business too. It was a perfect fit for Harrisburg Printing. The business moved, and we have expanded our operation and we continue to operate the business from the same location today.

Harrisburg Printing, Inc. has been providing its customers with high quality printing and personalized service since the beginning in 1973. Whether you are large manufacturer or small business, let us help you with your project. Printing is more than just putting ink on paper. It’s a high ethical standard of producing a product that is of high quality and environmentally friendly. That’s why we have been using environmentally friendly chemicals for years. We use vegetable-based inks , soybean oil cleaners and also use a wide variety of recycled papers. We use paper suppliers who carry each (FSC) & (SFI) certification. If you are not familiar with these terms, they stand for Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). These programs promote the healthy conservation of our forest. Harrisburg Printing along with our suppliers are helping our world for the next generation to come.

Over the years Regional and Global printing markets have changed, but our firm commitment to provide outstanding printing along with personalized service standards have not. Become part of the Harrisburg Printing, Inc. client family, and find where quality, creativity, and teamwork meet.

Helpfull Tips

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned professional graphic designer there are a few
things you should know before the printing process begins.

You have created your project and it looks great on your screen and prints perfect on your home or business printer.  This does not mean it will be perfect for the commercial printer.  However, there are a few steps you can take to make the project go as smoothly as possible.

THE CHECKLIST

  1. Make sure you have proof read your project in order to help you avoid costly mistakes.
  2. Before you give your job to us, let us first know what program is was created in so we know what we are working with.
  3. Does your job have the color running off the end of the project?
  4. Does your job have scanned pictures, downloaded pictures or placed line art?
  5. Are the fonts you are using common fonts from good sources?
  6. Is your project setup in RGB or CMYK mode?

If your job has color running off the edge of the project this is known as a bleed.  Bleeds should be extended .125 inches off each side in order to not show the color of sheet during the cutting process.

Note:  If you project has color running off the edges the project will need to be printed oversize.

If you have scanned images, downloaded pictures or line art, these will need to be at least 300 dpi in order to avoid what is called pixilation.  As an example, pixilation happens when you take an image that is small at a low resolution such as 72 dpi and make it bigger.  This leaves jagged edges around the picture or line art.

Note:  You CANNOT take an original image that is small and 72 dpi and turn it into a 300-dpi image and make it work.  However, you can take a big image at 72 dpi, copy it and place it into a NEW 300 dpi file and it will work if you have knowledge of Adobe Photoshop.

It is crucial to use reputable fonts, so they print what you are seeing on your screen.  Many times, fonts that look good on screen but do not print well.  Sources for good fonts are Adobe,  FontSpcae, DaFont and 1001 Fonts just to name a few.

When you setup your project to be printed either offset or digital it very important that the file be in CMYK mode so the colors you are looking for print correctly.  If your file is in RGB mode most likely the job will print much darker that needed.  RGB means RED, GREEN, BLUE.  This is how your monitor sees color.  Whether you print offset or digital the colors are either made up of PANTONE Colors or CMYK which is Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black.  If you do not know how to change the color mode in your project, we will be glad to assist you.

Now let’s start with what programs we use and how we can help you use them.

  1. Adobe Illustrator
  2. Adobe Photoshop
  3. Adobe InDesign
  4. Microsoft Word
  5. Microsoft Publisher

When using any Adobe products make sure to include all the fonts, pictures and line art used so all the links to the project are correct.  If you are using any Pantone colors, please check with us to make sure we have your color in stock.  Also, if your project has colors that are NOT Pantone colors make sure they are made up of CMYK instead of RGB in order to avoid costly color mistakes.  Also, please avoid using any transparencies that are not flattened or any overprints.

If you do not wish to get all the links associated with your project and you are confident that you have the project exactly as you want, then you can save your project as a PDF file. Just make sure that you have saved the project as a PRESS READY PDF with .125 bleed.

When using Microsoft Word or Microsoft Publisher make sure you have gone through the checklist in order to avoid costly mistakes.  BOTH of these programs standard mode is RGB . We do NOT print directly out of either of these programs except for copy work that does not have critical color in it. We recommend that you save your project as a PRESS READY PDF file with .125 bleeds.  If you do not know how to, or need help please call us and we will guide you through the process.

Dependent on how complex your project is will determine how it will print.  If your project is complex, we recommend using Adobe products. Microsoft Word or Microsoft Publisher are Office products that are to be used as such, but in many cases that is all the customer has.  With that in mine we will do our best to help you in any way we can to get you the product you wish for.
